Echo Park
Went on a stairway tour today of Echo Park. It was an amazingly beautiful day - really clear and breezy cool. You could see all the way across the city (we had rain yesterday, so that dumped all the smog in the ocean and temporarily out of the sky, great for views, not so great for the fish). We saw houses in the hills that gave sweeping views of the city and were only accessible by stairs (imagine not being able to drive up to your house!). The community is one of the oldest in LA over a hundred years, which is young in terms of most cities of the world but old for our standards. The tour was given through the Echo Park Historical Society, lasts about two hours and is a pleasant walk. $5 suggested donation (come on folks, that's a bargain for what you get).
A wonderful thing about Los Angeles is that you will always find something new even if you have lived here all your life. If you are adventurous, LA can become whatever you want it to be, besides, Hollywood lives here and all of LA just happens to be it's soundstage. So if you want it most likely it's here, you just have to go out and find it. So haters you might just be lazy and need to dig a little more if you haven't fallen in love with our city yet.
